What is a Live Zone?
A Live Zone is a Content Zone that allows you to stream a real-time event from a remote location to multiple viewers simultaneously around the world.
When do I want to use a Live Zone?
When you want to stream an event to multiple people in real-time.
What is the difference between a Live Zone and a VOD Zone?
VOD Zones are for pre-recorded video. Live Zones are for streaming live events from an encoder.
Is setting up a Live Zone provisioned in real time?
No, please contact Support with the creation request. We are currently working on a way to automate this process inside your control panel.
How do I access my Live Zone?
You use a media encoder to stream your event to a publishing URL that we provide you on zone creation.
What are some good media encoding clients?
Adobe Media Encoder, Livestream Wirecaster, Quicktime Media Encoder
Can I publish multiple streams to the same live zone?
Yes, you can publish multiple streams simultaneously, if your encoder supports that functionality.
Can I password protect my live stream?
Yes, you can password protect your live stream so only your video encoder can stream to the zone.
Are there any bitrate or streaming limits?
We don’t restrict the amount of bits that you can encode and stream in. Your live zone, however, is limited to the number of concurrent viewer seats that you pre-pay for monthly.
Can I add viewer seats while an event is in progress?
Yes, if you expect a situation like this to happen please give us at least 48 hours notice, so we can make the proper zone adjustments for you to automatically increase your viewer seats at certain thresholds.
Can I add bandwidth while an event is in progress?
Yes, but don’t worry if you go over your limit and aren’t in time to add bandwidth funds to your account. We can always automatically add funds for you upon request.
What stats and reporting will I have available to me?
Inside your control panel, you can see your concurrent viewer stats updated every 30 minutes, as well as your bandwidth usage stats for each live zone.
How many concurrent viewers can I stream to with a Live Zone and how is it billed?
You can have unlimited concurrent viewers watch any of your Live Zone streaming feeds. Live Zone pricing is based on viewer hour usage and bandwidth used with a minimum of 1000 viewer hours each month. For example, if you streamed a concert for 2hrs at 500kbps and had 100 viewers each hour, your costs would be 43GB of consumed bandwidth (deducted from your pre-paid bandwidth) + (100 * 2) for your viewer hours. Each Live Zone can have multiple simultaneous feeds streamed to it, so long as each connected stream has a unique file name. The disadvantage is you will not be able to break out your reporting based on stream name. We only report on total viewer hours per Live Zone.
How do I order live streaming services?
Live Zone creation is an add-on service for our SMB brands. To order this service please log into your control panel, and go to Manage Zones -> Live Zones -> Create Live Zone. For pricing associated with the Live Zone Add-On please visit the pricing page of your account. For our subsidiary brands, bandwidth usage is charged seperately from the monthly Live Zone fee.
