Optimizing the point of origin without optimizing for TCP: a case of diminishing returns
 

While it is possible to serve sites and applications from increasingly optimized servers and datacenters, with top of the line hardware, bandwidth and latency, this will at some point be a case of diminishing returns. The reason is that the total transfer speed also depends on the end user's client and TCP configuration. The global spread of edge servers reduces the slowdowns caused by inefficient TCP by providing geographically closer and cleaner routes with fewer hops.
